Man on Fire
is a movie that came out about a year or so ago and I think got passed
over in the movie theatres because it wasn't just another Denzel the
hero role. The movie stars Denzel Washington, Dakota Fanning and
Christopher Walken. It is directed by Tony Scott who also did Crimson
Tide.
Well this was sort of annoying, I spent a lot of time on a long
detailed review of this movie and my session timed out so I will
summarize.
The first thing you need to know is this
is NOT a happy go lucky, everything turns out great and peachy in the
end movie, it is dark and twisted.
Denzel is a
drunken has been who gets hired by a family in Mexico to be the
bodyguard of their daughter. The husband is broke so he hires this guy
due to the fact that hes cheap as he is a drunk. It starts out with
Denzel just treating Dakota's character like a package but predictably
she grows on him.
Eventually and predictably the
daughter gets kidnapped and Denzel (Creasy) gets shot and almost dies.
It's a pretty intense shootout but while Denzel is down the family
tries to pay ransom however the attempt is botched and they are told
the girl was killed. Denzel when he gets better finds out and this is
where the fun begins. What happens next I wont go over as it sort of
ruins the movie but right when you think the story ends happily it
doesnt. It's great and more people should of watched this movie.
The
movies actual style is gritty, dark and somewhat stylized. Tony Scott
gets extra bonus points for creatively using subtitles throughout the
movie, even when they are speaking in english, usually during intense
scenes. They arent quite comic book style but they float around a bit.
I thought that was a nice touch as it seemed to add to the intensity.
The
other great part of this was the score and soundtrack, even though you
can't get what was actually played in the movie it was a fairly
industrial soundtrack with some tracks by NiN.{mosgoogle left}
If
you get a chance rent it, or watch it, it was one of the best movies
around last year and as I mentioned before I have seen a ton of movies. |
