Crash, a movie that came out this year written and directed by Paul Haggis, has to be the ABSOLUTE BEST
movie I have seen in the last few years and easily ranks in my top 50
movies. This movie has a huge cast of great actors namely Don Cheadle,
Larenz Tate, Ryan Phillipe, Thandie Newton, Brendan Frasier and Sandra
Bullock.
You might be saying well top 50 movies doesn't sound like thats a very
high rank but if you look at the total ammount of movies I have seen in
my lifetime making it to the top 50 is pretty good (at one point
growing up I would rent aproximately 40-50 movies a month). BTW Repo
Man is my all time favorite movie.
{mosgoogle right}
Crash is a movie about multiple lifes that somehow end up colliding
(colliding is the best way to describe it) and then intertwining
throughout the rest of the movie. It is a gritty in your face movie
about modern day society and the veiled racism that is still out there
in the world in particular in a large city like Los Angeles.
Another character of Crash that doesn't get any billing is the City of
Los Angeles. The whole movie is set against the different sections of
Los Angeles ranging from Beverly Hills to Echo Park. It is a stylized
movie that is reminiscent of a Soderbergh film but not quite as color
oriented.
Paul Haggis wrote and directed the movie, primarily this dude has
written television scripts including Diff'rent Strokes and the Facts of
Life. Not what you'd expect to write a very gritty and intense drama
like this. His directorial debut tells the story in a non-linear
fashion so if you aren't all that quick of a person you might get lost.
Yeah I know this review sucked, it's late and I'm tired, but the bottom line is you need to see
this movie, preferrably while it's still in the theatres. The last
movie that I liked this much was probably 'The Salton Sea' or maybe
'Spun', don't worry if you've seen either of those movies this is
nothing like them. I should of posted this awhile back when I saw the movie.
