Holy Batshit Batman! I was pretty skeptical about going to see another
shitty Batman movie even though the cast was supposed to be pretty
great, but I did and I was surprised....
Holy Batshit Batman! I was pretty skeptical about going to see another
shitty Batman movie, but I did and I was surprised. {mosgoogle right}
Joel Schumacher
is credited for making Batman so incredibly gay. Most people hate Joel
Schumacher for that but if you look at his entire body of work you will
see he's done some good things like Car Wash, ok maybe that wasn't his
best but he directed Falling Down and Flatliners so he can't be all that bad.
However Batman Begins is a totally new Batman. Christian Bale is an incredible actor who has done great movies like American Psycho and Empire of the Sun.
He is supported by Michael Caine, Morgan Freeman, Liam Neeson, Gary
Oldman and even Rutger Hauer. This movie was obviously designed to wipe
the other movies from your head. Personally, I am a big fan of Tim
Burton's original Batman with Jack Nicholson and Michael Keaton it was
great and even the soundtrack was (Prince), so I thought it might be a
bit hard to forget about the first movies.
The movie from the
very beginning had a very different feel to it. The first thing you'll
notice is that the city really isn't stylized in any way whereas
Burton's Gotham city felt dark and twisted and Schumacher's felt like a
neon whorehouse this feels like a real city (in fact it's pretty much
Chicago). Another thing is the villians aren't as bizarre and
outlandish as in the other films you essentially have Ra's Al Ghul and
the ScareCrow both aren't outlandish like the Joker or Mr. Freeze. You
also have good old fashioned crime bosses, nothing fancy about them,
they just run most of the city.
All and all this movie makes
Batman seem like what the comic book intended for him to be not the
cheesy Batman comics of the 70s and 80s but the Dark Knight series
where Batman/Bruce Wayne is extremely tormented by his families death
and has problems coping with it. You watch this movie and you almost
forget it's a comic book character and just think of it as an intense
drama with strong action. My only wish was that Rutger Hauer and Gary
Oldman got larger parts, and my only complaint was that the weapon Ra's
Al Ghul was trying to use would of fried the people trying to operate
it as the human body is mostly water.
I hope they make a sequel
with the same cast, Katie Holmes doesn't have to be in it they can put
some other fluffer in their instead but the rest of the supporting cast
absolutely needs to stay. They left it open for a sequel with Batman
giving Gordon the Bat Signal and Gordon handing Batman a Joker playing
card. |
